Lisa Chapman, AWI-CH

Partner | Employment Law

Lisa Chapman has been drawn to employment law because of a desire to offer practical help to companies so that they can efficiently manage relationships with their employees. She knows that human resources are the most valuable resources any company has.

Lisa has litigated disputes in Federal and State courts for over thirty years. She has also represented a wide variety of Companies from many industries in matters before the EEOC and the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, among other agencies. Lisa also has substantial experience negotiating on behalf of and assisting executives with their employment documents and terms of their employment before the commencement of their employment and during layoffs and terminations.

Born in Seattle, Lisa lived most of her life in Los Angeles before moving to the Bay Area. She attended UCSB, detoured for a fascinating stint on Capital Hill where she worked for a Senate and White House Commission dedicated to environmental law issues, and then pursued her passion for the law at the University of San Francisco School of Law. She practiced at a few Los Angeles and Bay Area law firms before joining the team at Ruben P. Ruiz PC.

California is a tough place to be an employer; Lisa works hard to ease that burden.

In her employment law and litigation practice, Lisa helps startup and mid-size companies navigate and comply with Federal and state employment laws and regulations so that business owners can focus on the management and growth of their companies.

This includes laws related to:

  • Wage and hour laws and regulations
  • Sexual harassment and retaliation
  • Discrimination and harassment
  • Worker classification
  • Wrongful termination
  • Hostile work environment

She also provides expert advice to clients on matters such as mass termination of employees, expansion of the workforce,  creating and enforcing social media policies, and other employment and labor law issues.

Lisa can even conduct training to equip businesses to follow best practices in avoiding problems like sexual harassment and discrimination. When allegations of workplace misconduct do occur, Lisa is a trained workplace investigator who is able to help employers handle these incidents in a careful, just, and professional manner.

In addition to employment law, Lisa provides counsel to senior executives in job transitions. She also has significant litigation experience handling partnership disputes, collection matters, real estate claims, breach of contract, and fraud claims.

Lisa’s practice has focused on startup and mid-size companies in the San Francisco, Bay area.
